What Is Your Soul Doing?

Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield.  Psalm 33:20  (KJV)

According to 1 Thessalonians 5:23, we are three part beings. We are a spirit- we are made in God’s image and He is a spirit (Gen 1:26, John 4:24). We have a soul- mind, will and emotions that will go with us into eternity (Luke 16:19-31). We live in a body- our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). We are not our bodies, these are simply the homes that we live in. We are not our minds or emotions, these are part of the soul. We are made in God’s image- we are like Him- we are a spirit.

When we are born again, we (spirit) is regenerated. We are made new.

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.  2 Corinthians 5:17  (KJV)

We are born again but our soul is not. This is an area that we (spirit) must control. This is why people struggle with thoughts that are contrary to the Word of God and emotions that don’t line up with godly emotions. This is even why there are times that God wants us to do something and we don’t really want to (will). This whole arena can be so busy and distracted from God that it is hard for you (spirit) to hear God.

There are so many things that can keep our souls distracted and our spirits cluttered. If your soul is distracted you will have a difficult time hearing from God. Many people wonder why God isn’t moving in their life. They wonder why they aren’t seeing the results in their life that they see in the Word. I’ll let you in on a secret that God spoke to me:

The kingdom where your soul resides is the kingdom you will experience.

People are locked into the news an hour or two a day. Gossiping at work and talking bad about their neighbors and politicians. They are angry at the person that just cut them off in traffic on the way home and they watch everything that the world watches on TV. They get emails every 15 minutes on their phone in between the calls and texts. They peruse the internet for an hour a day wasting time looking at nothing usually called facebook. And they spend 15 minutes a day reading a devotion that has one Bible verse in it and the rest is all someone else’s opinion.

Their soul is all locked up. They are distracted to the max. How do I know this? Because I’ve done it. I’ve lived it. It is common among the body of Christ. You get together for “fellowship” with other believers and not one time do you discuss the Word of God. You talk about your job and what your kids are doing, how life in general is going but nothing about God.

Fiery, passionate, hungry people can’t help but talk about Jesus. They are in love. Just as a newlywed talks about her new husband longingly and lovingly, we need to talk of Him. You can keep that passion for Jesus your entire life but it must be purposeful.

One of the keys to getting passionate and staying passionate for Jesus is making your soul wait on the Lord. Make your mind focus on Him. Make your emotions sit down and be still. Quiet yourself in His presence and wait longingly and lovingly on Him.
